Learning Support Awareness Day 2024
NZEI Te Riu Roa members will be running local activities for the first ever Learning Support Awareness Day on Thursday 29 August. Keep your eye out for events happening in your school and make sure to show up and show support. This is your opportunity to raise awareness of the gaps between learning support need and provision impacting you and the tamariki you work with at your school, kura or centre.

Charter schools legislation submission guide
The Education and Training Amendment Bill proposes some of the most significant changes to the provision of public education in Aotearoa New Zealand in decades. Most notably the Bill proposes that public schools can be converted into charter schools. Following a first reading on Wednesday 26 June, the bill is now before the Education and Workforce Select Committee. Submissions are open for only a short period until Thursday 25 July.

Holding a learning support roundtable discussion
Learning Support need far outstrips provision. Teachers, principals, learning support specialists and whānau and parents have long been calling out for learning support to be provided to all mokopuna who need it, not rationed out according to an inadequate funding formula. What is needed is far greater numbers of teacher aides and specialists to provide the learning support needed.
